Our shop is at 2117 S Stoughton Road, and we have completed 956 roofing and exterior jobs inside Madison city limits. That is not a service radius we drive to. It is the city we work in every day, from the century-old homes on the isthmus to the 2010s builds out past Junction Road.
Madison’s housing stock swings harder than almost any city its size, and the roof problems track the build era precisely. Here is what we find at each end.
Isthmus, Marquette, Tenney-Lapham

Nakoma, Westmorland, Eken Park
Post-war ranches and Cape Cods, most now on their second or third roof. Wisconsin allows two layers and we generally will not add one, because you cannot inspect decking through a layover and the second layer runs hot and fails years early.
East side, Meadowood, Sherman
Builder-grade three-tab shingles from the 1990s are at end of life right now across this band. Rooflines get more complex here, which means flashing and valley detail matter more than shingle brand.
Far west side, Grandview Commons
Young roofs, so these calls are almost entirely storm and hail claims rather than age. Bruising on an eight-year-old roof is invisible from the ground and gets denied without proper documentation.
Residential and commercial, across Madison, Dane County, & Southern Wisconsin.
Full tear-off to the deck, decking inspected sheet by sheet. Most installs finish in a single day.
Leaks, failed pipe boots, missing shingles, flashing pulled loose at the chimney. We will tell you when a repair is the right call.
Documented free inspection for your insurer, and we meet the adjuster on site.
Balanced intake and exhaust. The fix for ice damming is almost never more shingles.
26-gauge standing seam with concealed fasteners. Sheds snow instead of holding it.
EPDM, TPO and modified bitumen for porch roofs, additions and dormers.
Pitch, stories, valleys, skylights, decking replacement and ventilation corrections all move the number. A two-story near Marquette with dormers can cost more than a larger ranch on the west side with a simple roofline.

We had a strange door/lock issue, called MANY companies and the Exteriors Company was the only company willing to come and look at our door. They called me right back when I left a message, were on time for the appointment and did a wonderful job in fixing the problem. Tony and Andrew are the best! In addition to fixing the problem, they were extremely kind people, too. We need more of this in our world now. We are extremely grateful to have a working door again. Thank you! We will be using your company again and tell all of our friends about your services. Keith helgersonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent service. I'll summarize here in case you don't want to read a lengthy review. The highlights were communication, quality of work, price, and customer service. I cannot wait to work with The Exteriors Company again. The Exteriors Company could teach a master class on contractor/customer interactions. If you need exterior work done, call The Exteriors Company! FOR REAL. LENGTHY REVIEW STARTS HERE: It took over a year and a half and meeting with 15 roofing companies to finally find the right company for my job: The Exteriors Company. My house has a modern/Frank Lloyd Wright kinda vibe - lots of different roof sections and pitches. A majority of the first 15 contractors that bid on my roof repair wanted to sell me a new roof. The problem with my roof was a design flaw and a new roof would have eventually led to more water in my house. This was confirmed by an architect. If you look at the before and after photo, you can see how ridiculous the design was. We had water coming into our house anytime it rained and when the snow melted. It was awful. We were lucky enough to have Ryan (the owner of The Exteriors Company) come look at our roof. The first thing he said after climbing on to the roof was, "You need to redo this whole area," confirming what we already knew. That was the first clue that we found a good roofing contractor. After talking in person and over email with Ryan and getting the contract for the project, we knew we found the right company. Ryan was so communicative. He reached out regularly through the repair process. We had four different teams (framing, roofing, siding and gutters) work on our repair. We were notified in advance when to expect each team. Then each team project manager reached out via text a day or two before and the day of their work. Each team was on time and did beautiful work. They were also tidy and I felt like they respected our home and property. Shout out to Taylor Paar and Scott Mack (roofing project manager and siding manager). Both these fellows came to meet with me and my husband to review the work that was done and to make sure everything was done to our liking. And to make sure we didn't have any concerns or questions. The entire experience from start to finish was incredible. The Exteriors Company very obviously cares deeply about the quality of their work and customer satisfaction. If I could give more than five stars, I would gladly do that. I wish more contractors/vendors followed the playbook that The Exteriors Company has perfected. JOB ???????? WELL ???????? DONE ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? BNPRESERVETrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Don W. Called ahead and Showed up when he said he would. The roof and small siding repair was done in a timely manner. Don was Very easy to talk to and he understood what needed to be fixed. And completed the job as promised.

Yes. The City of Madison requires a permit for roof replacement through the Building Inspection Division, and it is separate from the process in Middleton, Fitchburg or Sun Prairie. We pull it as part of the job.
Shorter than the number on the wrapper. A 30-year architectural shingle realistically gives you 20 to 25 years here, and the difference is almost always attic ventilation. Freeze-thaw cycling punishes the eaves while a hot, under-ventilated attic cooks the shingles from below.
It can. Homes in districts like Mansion Hill, Third Lake Ridge and University Heights may require additional review before visible material changes. We will tell you at the estimate whether your address is affected and what that adds to the timeline.
Wisconsin allows two layers, and we generally will not do it. You cannot inspect the decking through a layover, the second layer runs hotter and fails early, and the tear-off you avoid today gets more expensive later.
Yes, within limits. Shingles need to seal, so we watch temperatures and adjust technique. Emergency repairs and tarping happen year-round regardless of conditions.
We inspect free, document for your insurer, meet the adjuster on site, and handle supplements when the initial scope comes in short. You file the claim and we handle the rest.
