Waunakee Siding Contractors for Fiber Cement, Engineered Wood & Steel

Waunakee siding contractors have to solve for a load most Dane County installers never think about. On an exposed lot with farmland upwind, siding takes sustained pressure and wind-driven rain that a sheltered Madison street never sees — and vinyl installed to the usual standard is the first thing to come off.

Local conditions

What wind does to siding

Three failure modes, and all of them concentrate on the windward elevation while the other three sides look fine.

Lock engagement

Vinyl's weak point

Vinyl panels hang from a nail hem and lock into the course below. The lock has to be fully engaged along the whole run. A partially engaged lock holds fine in still air and releases in a gust, which is why you find one elevation missing panels and the rest of the house untouched.

Wind-driven rain

Water going uphill

Sustained wind drives rain horizontally and forces it up under laps and around openings. The drainage plane behind the siding stops being optional on an exposed lot — it is the thing doing the work when water gets past the face, which on the windward side it will.

Fastener spacing

The shortcut

Manufacturers specify fastener spacing that tightens in high-wind applications. Standard spacing goes on faster. On the windward elevation of a Waunakee house that difference is the difference between damage and no damage in a straight-line event.

Impact

Debris and hail

Open agricultural ground upwind means debris. Steel and fiber cement absorb impact that cracks vinyl, which is why a mixed specification — steel or fiber cement on the windward side — is worth pricing even if you keep vinyl elsewhere.

Siding services in Waunakee

Full re-sides, partial replacement, and the repair work that’s usually hiding behind the old siding.

Steel siding

The most impact and wind resistant material we install. Worth serious consideration on an exposed windward elevation.

James Hardie fiber cement

Heavy, stable and unaffected by freeze-thaw. Holds fasteners better than vinyl under sustained load.

LP SmartSide engineered wood

Real wood texture with far better impact resistance than vinyl.

High-wind vinyl installation

Where vinyl is the right budget answer, installed at tightened fastener spacing with locks checked along every run.

Drainage plane & house wrap

Where a windward wall succeeds or fails. Wind-driven rain gets past the face — the plane behind it is what protects the sheathing.

Windward-elevation replacement

Single-elevation storm work, documented for your claim.

Details that matter

What we specify on the windward side

The exposed elevation of a Waunakee house is a different job from the other three, and we price it that way.

Budget-conscious full replacement

$14,000–$26,000

A mixed specification — steel or fiber cement on the exposed elevation, a less expensive material elsewhere — is often the best value on a Waunakee lot. It is not a standard package and most contractors will not offer it unprompted.

I'm extremely impressed with the Exteriors company and their work. We had a strange door/lock issue, called MANY companies and the Exteriors Company was the only company willing to come and look at our door. They called me right back when I left a message, were on time for the appointment and did a wonderful job in fixing the problem. Tony and Andrew are the best! In addition to fixing the problem, they were extremely kind people, too. We need more of this in our world now. We are extremely grateful to have a working door again. Thank you! We will be using your company again and tell all of our friends about your services.

The Exteriors Company deserves 6 out of 5 ⭐ I cannot give them enough praise. I'll summarize here in case you don't want to read a lengthy review. The highlights were communication, quality of work, price, and customer service. I cannot wait to work with The Exteriors Company again. The Exteriors Company could teach a master class on contractor/customer interactions. If you need exterior work done, call The Exteriors Company! FOR REAL. LENGTHY REVIEW STARTS HERE: It took over a year and a half and meeting with 15 roofing companies to finally find the right company for my job: The Exteriors Company. My house has a modern/Frank Lloyd Wright kinda vibe - lots of different roof sections and pitches. A majority of the first 15 contractors that bid on my roof repair wanted to sell me a new roof. The problem with my roof was a design flaw and a new roof would have eventually led to more water in my house. This was confirmed by an architect. If you look at the before and after photo, you can see how ridiculous the design was. We had water coming into our house anytime it rained and when the snow melted. It was awful. We were lucky enough to have Ryan (the owner of The Exteriors Company) come look at our roof. The first thing he said after climbing on to the roof was, "You need to redo this whole area," confirming what we already knew. That was the first clue that we found a good roofing contractor. After talking in person and over email with Ryan and getting the contract for the project, we knew we found the right company. Ryan was so communicative. He reached out regularly through the repair process. We had four different teams (framing, roofing, siding and gutters) work on our repair. We were notified in advance when to expect each team. Then each team project manager reached out via text a day or two before and the day of their work. Each team was on time and did beautiful work. They were also tidy and I felt like they respected our home and property. Shout out to Taylor Paar and Scott Mack (roofing project manager and siding manager). Both these fellows came to meet with me and my husband to review the work that was done and to make sure everything was done to our liking. And to make sure we didn't have any concerns or questions. The entire experience from start to finish was incredible. The Exteriors Company very obviously cares deeply about the quality of their work and customer satisfaction. If I could give more than five stars, I would gladly do that. I wish more contractors/vendors followed the playbook that The Exteriors Company has perfected. JOB ???????? WELL ???????? DONE ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Waunakee Siding Questions

Answered by Experts

Exposure plus lock engagement. The windward elevation takes the pressure, and if the vinyl locks were not fully engaged along that run they hold in still air and release in a gust. The other three sides never got tested. It is almost always an installation issue rather than a product one.

It is worth pricing, and almost nobody offers it unprompted. Steel or fiber cement on the windward elevation with a less expensive material elsewhere gives you the durability where it matters without paying for it on three sheltered walls. We will show you both numbers.

On an exposed Waunakee lot, yes. Sustained wind forces water horizontally and up under laps and around window openings. No siding face is fully watertight under that load — what protects the wall is the drainage plane behind it. That is the part you never see and the part worth getting right.

Steel, then fiber cement, then engineered wood, then vinyl. If your lot is genuinely exposed, steel is worth pricing even if you had not considered it. On a sheltered interior lot in a built-out subdivision, good vinyl installed properly is fine and we will say so.

Wind and hail damage to siding frequently is, and it gets missed because homeowners look at the roof and stop. If your roof claim was approved, the windward elevation’s siding, screens and gutters are worth inspecting before the claim closes.
