Waunakee Seamless Gutters, Guards & Repair

Waunakee seamless gutters fail from underneath. A gutter full of water is heavy and stable; an empty one on an exposed eave is a long aluminium airfoil, and wind gets under it and lifts. On open ground north of the lakes, hanger type and spacing matter more than gutter size does.

Local conditions

Why Waunakee gutters fail

Four things, and the first one accounts for most of what we get called about here.

Uplift

Wind under the gutter

An empty gutter on an exposed eave catches wind from below. The force is upward, which is exactly the direction spike-and-ferrule fastening is worst at resisting. On a Waunakee lot, hidden hangers screwed into the fascia at tightened spacing are not an upgrade — they are the baseline.

Spike and ferrule

The old system

Older gutters were hung with long spikes driven through the gutter into the fascia. They loosen over time as the wood works around the spike, and on an exposed eave they work loose much faster. If you can see gaps between the gutter and the fascia, that is what is happening.

Debris from open ground

Not leaves

With little tree cover, Waunakee gutters do not clog with maple seed. They collect agricultural and airborne debris from open ground upwind, which is finer and behaves differently. Mesh guards designed for leaves are often the wrong product here.

Ice

Freeze-thaw

Snow melts off a warm roof and refreezes at the cold eave. Gutters do not cause ice dams, but a gutter already loosened by wind uplift will not survive the added ice load. The real fix is ventilation and insulation, and we will say so rather than selling you gutters.

Gutter Services in Waunakee, WI

New seamless systems, guards, drainage, and the repairs that are worth doing versus the ones that aren’t.

Hidden hanger installation

Screwed into the fascia at tightened spacing. The correct system for an exposed eave and what we install by default.

Spike-to-hanger conversion

Replacing loosened spike-and-ferrule fastening without necessarily replacing the gutter.

Seamless installation

Formed on site to the exact run length. No seams means no seam leaks.

Fascia repair

Spikes working loose over years chew up the fascia behind them. We replace rather than screwing into damaged wood.

Guards for open-ground debris

Fine debris behaves differently from leaves. The right screen matters more than whether you have one.

Foundation drainage

Extensions and underground drains to get water away from the house.

Details that matter

Hanger spec for an exposed eave

On a Waunakee lot this is the part of the job that decides whether your gutters are still attached in five years.

Pricing

What gutters cost in Waunakee

Installed per linear foot. A typical Waunakee home runs 140 to 240 feet.

Option

Best for

Range

5-inch seamless aluminum

Standard replacement

$9–$15 / ft

6-inch seamless aluminum

Large roofs, valley discharge

$12–$19 / ft

Spike-to-hanger conversion

Existing gutter, sound

$4–$8 / ft

Fascia replacement

Where spikes have chewed it up

Two-story elevations and difficult access move the number. Fascia replacement is quoted at the estimate once we can see behind the existing gutter — on a house with old spike fastening, expect to find some.

I'm extremely impressed with the Exteriors company and their work. We had a strange door/lock issue, called MANY companies and the Exteriors Company was the only company willing to come and look at our door. They called me right back when I left a message, were on time for the appointment and did a wonderful job in fixing the problem. Tony and Andrew are the best! In addition to fixing the problem, they were extremely kind people, too. We need more of this in our world now. We are extremely grateful to have a working door again. Thank you! We will be using your company again and tell all of our friends about your services.

The Exteriors Company deserves 6 out of 5 ⭐ I cannot give them enough praise. I'll summarize here in case you don't want to read a lengthy review. The highlights were communication, quality of work, price, and customer service. I cannot wait to work with The Exteriors Company again. The Exteriors Company could teach a master class on contractor/customer interactions. If you need exterior work done, call The Exteriors Company! FOR REAL. LENGTHY REVIEW STARTS HERE: It took over a year and a half and meeting with 15 roofing companies to finally find the right company for my job: The Exteriors Company. My house has a modern/Frank Lloyd Wright kinda vibe - lots of different roof sections and pitches. A majority of the first 15 contractors that bid on my roof repair wanted to sell me a new roof. The problem with my roof was a design flaw and a new roof would have eventually led to more water in my house. This was confirmed by an architect. If you look at the before and after photo, you can see how ridiculous the design was. We had water coming into our house anytime it rained and when the snow melted. It was awful. We were lucky enough to have Ryan (the owner of The Exteriors Company) come look at our roof. The first thing he said after climbing on to the roof was, "You need to redo this whole area," confirming what we already knew. That was the first clue that we found a good roofing contractor. After talking in person and over email with Ryan and getting the contract for the project, we knew we found the right company. Ryan was so communicative. He reached out regularly through the repair process. We had four different teams (framing, roofing, siding and gutters) work on our repair. We were notified in advance when to expect each team. Then each team project manager reached out via text a day or two before and the day of their work. Each team was on time and did beautiful work. They were also tidy and I felt like they respected our home and property. Shout out to Taylor Paar and Scott Mack (roofing project manager and siding manager). Both these fellows came to meet with me and my husband to review the work that was done and to make sure everything was done to our liking. And to make sure we didn't have any concerns or questions. The entire experience from start to finish was incredible. The Exteriors Company very obviously cares deeply about the quality of their work and customer satisfaction. If I could give more than five stars, I would gladly do that. I wish more contractors/vendors followed the playbook that The Exteriors Company has perfected. JOB ???????? WELL ???????? DONE ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Waunakee Siding Questions

Answered by Experts

Wind uplift acting on spike-and-ferrule fastening. An empty gutter on an exposed eave catches wind from underneath, and the force is upward — the direction spikes resist worst. Over years the wood works around the spike and the gutter starts to sag away. Converting to hidden hangers screwed into the fascia usually solves it without replacing the gutter.

A spike is a long nail driven through the gutter into the fascia. A hidden hanger is a bracket that clips into the gutter and screws into the fascia, spreading the load and resisting uplift far better. Spikes were standard for decades and they are still used because they are fast. On an exposed Waunakee eave we do not install them.

Less often than in a neighbourhood with mature trees, and if you do, the product matters. Waunakee gutters collect fine airborne and agricultural debris from open ground rather than leaves and maple seed. Mesh sized for leaves passes fine debris straight through, so it accumulates anyway. We will tell you honestly if your lot does not warrant guards.

On most Waunakee homes, no. Six-inch matters where a valley concentrates a large roof area into a short run. On a standard roofline, correctly hung 5-inch with a properly sized downspout is genuinely fine — and on this lot, how it is hung matters more than how wide it is.

No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling. Ice dams come from heat escaping into the attic, melting snow that refreezes at the cold eave. Gutters make the resulting damage worse when they are full or already loosened. The real fix is ventilation and insulation, which we also do.
