The Exteriors Company is a Wisconsin-certified dwelling contractor based in Madison, handling roofing repair and installation, windows replacement, siding repair, gutter installation, storm damage & insurance, and full exterior remodels across Madison and Dane County. When a project touches structure, permitting, or more than a couple of trades, this is the bucket it falls into — one contract, one schedule, one company accountable for the result.

The larger projects where exterior work meets structure, framing, and permits.
GAF- and Malarkey-certified roof replacement, repair, and storm-damage restoration built for Wisconsin winters.
James Hardie, LP SmartSide, Diamond Kote, and CertainTeed siding that boosts curb appeal and stands up to freeze-thaw.
ENERGY STAR®-rated replacement windows, correctly flashed and integrated with the siding so they never leak.
Seamless 26-gauge aluminum gutters and guards that move water off the roof and away from the foundation.
Inspected, documented, and taken through your insurance claim from adjuster meeting to final payment.
When the roof, siding, windows, and gutters have all reached end of life at once, we replace the entire envelope as one coordinated, correctly-sequenced project.
On the outside of a house, sequence is everything. This is what “one contractor managing the whole envelope” actually means.
We walk the roof, siding, windows, and gutters, document condition and any storm damage, and identify which trades the project actually needs.
If storm damage is involved, we meet the adjuster on site, build and defend the scope of work, and make sure nothing gets missed before anything is signed.
A line-item contract with a real number and schedule, plus material and color selections. No open-ended surprises.
The envelope goes on in the right order — roofing and flashing, then windows, then siding and trim — so each layer laps over the one below it and water always sheds outward.
Step and counter-flashing, window head-flashing, kick-out flashing, and drip edge behind the gutters. This is where a single contractor earns the job — the seams no individual trade owns on its own.
Magnetic nail sweep, full-site cleanup, and a walkthrough before you sign off. One warranty covers the finished exterior.

We had a strange door/lock issue, called MANY companies and the Exteriors Company was the only company willing to come and look at our door. They called me right back when I left a message, were on time for the appointment and did a wonderful job in fixing the problem. Tony and Andrew are the best! In addition to fixing the problem, they were extremely kind people, too. We need more of this in our world now. We are extremely grateful to have a working door again. Thank you! We will be using your company again and tell all of our friends about your services. Keith helgersonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent service. I'll summarize here in case you don't want to read a lengthy review. The highlights were communication, quality of work, price, and customer service. I cannot wait to work with The Exteriors Company again. The Exteriors Company could teach a master class on contractor/customer interactions. If you need exterior work done, call The Exteriors Company! FOR REAL. LENGTHY REVIEW STARTS HERE: It took over a year and a half and meeting with 15 roofing companies to finally find the right company for my job: The Exteriors Company. My house has a modern/Frank Lloyd Wright kinda vibe - lots of different roof sections and pitches. A majority of the first 15 contractors that bid on my roof repair wanted to sell me a new roof. The problem with my roof was a design flaw and a new roof would have eventually led to more water in my house. This was confirmed by an architect. If you look at the before and after photo, you can see how ridiculous the design was. We had water coming into our house anytime it rained and when the snow melted. It was awful. We were lucky enough to have Ryan (the owner of The Exteriors Company) come look at our roof. The first thing he said after climbing on to the roof was, "You need to redo this whole area," confirming what we already knew. That was the first clue that we found a good roofing contractor. After talking in person and over email with Ryan and getting the contract for the project, we knew we found the right company. Ryan was so communicative. He reached out regularly through the repair process. We had four different teams (framing, roofing, siding and gutters) work on our repair. We were notified in advance when to expect each team. Then each team project manager reached out via text a day or two before and the day of their work. Each team was on time and did beautiful work. They were also tidy and I felt like they respected our home and property. Shout out to Taylor Paar and Scott Mack (roofing project manager and siding manager). Both these fellows came to meet with me and my husband to review the work that was done and to make sure everything was done to our liking. And to make sure we didn't have any concerns or questions. The entire experience from start to finish was incredible. The Exteriors Company very obviously cares deeply about the quality of their work and customer satisfaction. If I could give more than five stars, I would gladly do that. I wish more contractors/vendors followed the playbook that The Exteriors Company has perfected. JOB ???????? WELL ???????? DONE ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? BNPRESERVETrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Don W. Called ahead and Showed up when he said he would. The roof and small siding repair was done in a timely manner. Don was Very easy to talk to and he understood what needed to be fixed. And completed the job as promised.

An exterior general contractor takes responsibility for the entire outside of your home under one contract — roofing, siding, windows, gutters, trim, and flashing — rather than you hiring a separate roofer, siding company, and window installer and coordinating them yourself. One company sequences the trades in the right order, manages the project, and stands behind the finished result with a single warranty. It matters most on full exterior remodels and storm restoration, where the roof, siding, and windows all interact and have to be integrated correctly to keep water out.
When separate companies handle the roof, siding, and windows, the connections between them — the areas that actually leak — become nobody’s clear responsibility. Step flashing where the roof meets the wall, window head-flashing tucked under the siding, and the drip edge behind the gutters all cross trade boundaries. A single exterior contractor owns those transitions, sequences the work so each trade laps over the one below it, and gives you one point of contact and one warranty instead of three separate bids, schedules, and warranties to reconcile — each pointing at the other when something fails.
Yes — storm and hail damage to the exterior is a core part of what we do. We inspect and document the damage across the whole envelope, meet the adjuster on site, build and defend the scope of work so nothing gets missed, and manage supplements when additional damage is found. In most cases your only out-of-pocket cost is your deductible, unless your policy is ACV-only, in which case depreciation may apply. Because we handle every exterior trade, we can restore roof, siding, gutters, and window damage as one coordinated claim.
A roof-only replacement is usually one to two days. Siding runs several days to a couple of weeks depending on the home. A full exterior remodel combining roofing, siding, windows, and gutters typically takes one to three weeks of active work once materials are on site, with lead time before that for material orders and scheduling. We give you a realistic schedule at contract, and because one crew runs the whole project, the trades don’t sit waiting on each other.
Absolutely. Plenty of our projects are a single trade — a roof replacement, a gutter job, or a window set. The general-contractor advantage simply means that when a project does involve more than one trade, or when you’re not sure how far the damage goes, you’ve got one company that can see and handle the whole envelope rather than handing you off.
We’re a Wisconsin-certified Dwelling Contractor, GAF Certified+ and Malarkey-certified for roofing, and carry liability and workers’ compensation insurance. Manufacturer certification means we can offer stronger, longer workmanship and material warranties than an uncertified installer — including up to 25-year workmanship coverage — and one warranty covers the finished exterior rather than separate coverage from each trade.
No — our focus is the exterior envelope: roofing, siding, windows, gutters, trim, and storm restoration. For interior work like kitchens, baths, or basements, we’re happy to point you toward remodelers who specialize there. We’d rather tell you that than take on work outside where we’re strongest.
