A lot of Middleton’s 1980s and 90s stock went up with cedar. Cedar that has been painted rather than stained traps moisture and cups. Converting to fiber cement or engineered wood while keeping the original profile is most of what we do on these houses.
1990s–2000s builds
Some of this era used synthetic stucco systems that, if installed without a drainage plane, hold water against the sheathing. The damage is invisible until the sheathing is opened. If your home has it, get it inspected before it becomes a structural repair.

Substituting stock trim is the fastest way to make a well-designed house look wrong, and it is the most common complaint we hear about previous contractors.
It depends on what has already been done to it. Cedar that has been stained and maintained can often be restored. Cedar that was painted tends to trap moisture and cup, and at that point restoration is throwing money at a material that will keep failing. We will tell you which you have.
Fiber cement and engineered wood both handle freeze-thaw better than vinyl because they move less with temperature. On Middleton’s architecture, fiber cement also offers the widest trim range for matching existing detail, which is usually the deciding factor here.
We can assess it and we can replace it. The thing to know is that some 1990s and 2000s synthetic stucco systems were installed without a drainage plane, which holds water against the sheathing and does damage you cannot see. If your home has it, an inspection before it becomes a structural repair is worth the appointment.
