Windows and screens are the most forgotten line items in an Evansville storm claim. Hail shreds screens, dents frames and chips glass, and almost nobody mentions it because the roof is what everyone is looking at. Individually they are small numbers. On a whole house they are frequently thousands of dollars that nobody claimed.
Four kinds of damage, and three of them are cheap to fix and easy to forget.
Shredded or torn
The most commonly damaged and most commonly unclaimed component on the whole house. A full set of screens is a real number, and they are almost never mentioned unless somebody counts them. We count them.
Dents
Aluminium-clad and vinyl frames dent and mark. It is cosmetic until it is not — a cracked vinyl frame or a compromised cladding seal lets water into the wood behind it, and that turns into rot a few years later.
Chips and cracks
Hail can chip or crack glass outright. Less common than screen damage and much more obvious when it happens.
Not storm related
Fogging between the panes is age, not hail, and we will say so. It is a real problem worth fixing and it is not an insurance claim, and conflating the two is how a claim gets scrutinised harder than it needed to be.
Whole-house replacement, single-opening swaps, and the structural work that sometimes comes with them.
Full sets or individual. Counted and documented as part of a storm inspection.
Frames, cladding, glass and screens photographed by elevation for your claim.
New unit inside a sound existing frame. Faster and less expensive where the frame is genuinely sound.
Frame out to the rough opening, where there is rot or the opening is being resized.
Sometimes the glass unit alone can be replaced. This is maintenance, not a claim.
Code-compliant basement egress, including cutting and window well installation.
A full set of screens on a typical home runs into four figures. On a covered claim that is money you are entitled to and will not receive unless somebody itemises it. Focus on Energy has historically offered rebates on qualifying efficient windows; confirm current terms before counting on them.

I'm extremely impressed with the Exteriors company and their work. We had a strange door/lock issue, called MANY companies and the Exteriors Company was the only company willing to come and look at our door. They called me right back when I left a message, were on time for the appointment and did a wonderful job in fixing the problem. Tony and Andrew are the best! In addition to fixing the problem, they were extremely kind people, too. We need more of this in our world now. We are extremely grateful to have a working door again. Thank you! We will be using your company again and tell all of our friends about your services.![]()

The Exteriors Company deserves 6 out of 5 ⭐ I cannot give them enough praise. I'll summarize here in case you don't want to read a lengthy review. The highlights were communication, quality of work, price, and customer service. I cannot wait to work with The Exteriors Company again. The Exteriors Company could teach a master class on contractor/customer interactions. If you need exterior work done, call The Exteriors Company! FOR REAL. LENGTHY REVIEW STARTS HERE: It took over a year and a half and meeting with 15 roofing companies to finally find the right company for my job: The Exteriors Company. My house has a modern/Frank Lloyd Wright kinda vibe - lots of different roof sections and pitches. A majority of the first 15 contractors that bid on my roof repair wanted to sell me a new roof. The problem with my roof was a design flaw and a new roof would have eventually led to more water in my house. This was confirmed by an architect. If you look at the before and after photo, you can see how ridiculous the design was. We had water coming into our house anytime it rained and when the snow melted. It was awful. We were lucky enough to have Ryan (the owner of The Exteriors Company) come look at our roof. The first thing he said after climbing on to the roof was, "You need to redo this whole area," confirming what we already knew. That was the first clue that we found a good roofing contractor. After talking in person and over email with Ryan and getting the contract for the project, we knew we found the right company. Ryan was so communicative. He reached out regularly through the repair process. We had four different teams (framing, roofing, siding and gutters) work on our repair. We were notified in advance when to expect each team. Then each team project manager reached out via text a day or two before and the day of their work. Each team was on time and did beautiful work. They were also tidy and I felt like they respected our home and property. Shout out to Taylor Paar and Scott Mack (roofing project manager and siding manager). Both these fellows came to meet with me and my husband to review the work that was done and to make sure everything was done to our liking. And to make sure we didn't have any concerns or questions. The entire experience from start to finish was incredible. The Exteriors Company very obviously cares deeply about the quality of their work and customer satisfaction. If I could give more than five stars, I would gladly do that. I wish more contractors/vendors followed the playbook that The Exteriors Company has perfected. JOB ???????? WELL ???????? DONE ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????![]()

If they were damaged by a covered storm event, generally yes — and they are the single most commonly unclaimed item on a house. A full set runs into four figures on a typical home. Nobody receives that money unless somebody counts the screens and itemises them, which is why we do it as part of the inspection.
Usually yes, and not only for cosmetic reasons. A cracked vinyl frame or a compromised cladding seal lets water into the wood behind it, and that becomes rot years later. Documenting it while the claim is open costs nothing and protects you from paying for the consequence yourself.
No, and we will tell you so plainly. Fogging is seal failure from age rather than storm damage, and including it weakens the credibility of the rest of the claim. It is a real problem worth fixing and often cheaper than people expect — it is just not an insurance matter.
Sometimes. If the frame and sash are sound, the insulated glass unit can occasionally be replaced on its own for considerably less than a full unit. We check before quoting a replacement package.
If it is being used or permitted as a sleeping room, yes. It is a code and safety requirement rather than an upgrade, and it needs a permit from the City of Evansville.
